Splitting fun

Last week I had an editor change a couple of cases of "can also help" to "also can help" on me. I'm not sure why they did this. I figure there's two reasons. Either, they think that also needs to have wide scope over the modal. Or they are generalizing the "don't split an infinitive" to cover all auxiliary and verb complexes.

The suggested changes both sounded pretty bad to me, so I stetted them. I'm a splitter, what can I say.
