It’s certainly not unimpressive that Alex had apparently learned to associate the quoted string of words above with being put back in his cage for the night.

WTF you? It's clear that what I meant was "it's impressive enough" -- not quite as strong as "it's impressive", hence the two negations (which cancel each other out).
Oh if it were only the two negations I wouldn't have mentioned it. But there's certainly and apparently thrown in for good measure. Tha's some serious Chomskyan rhetoric there my friend.
