Pedestrian safety is for the rich

This post on Baristanet reminded me of my wife's complaint that the only towns that protect pedestrians in New Jersey are the rich ones: Ridgewood, Westfield, Glen Rock, etc. and now Montclair.

Last week, [This post is several weeks old - Ed.] Corzine announced a $74 million Pedestrian Safety Initiative which promises to enable safer walking conditions through better enforcement, education and engineering.

In middle income towns like Hawthorne and poor towns like Paterson pedestrians have run for their lives.
