The new face of European pop, from Finland

The Finnish band Lordi won the Eurovision Song Contest 2006, beating out the Swedish favorite Carola. You can see their hardrock high school revenge fantasy here.

Now I'm no Eurovision expert, but I was a bit surprised that these guys won. Apparently so were the British bookies:

Finnish prize expensive for British Bookmaker

In Great Britain, the bookmaker William Hill has been hit with big losses because of Lordis' win. From the beginning, the odds were 25 to 1 against them and went to 7 to 1 before the show started.

"We decided that Finland, despite the hype, didn't have a chance. We are
going to be much more conservative towards newcomers in the future, Rupert
Adams, spokesman for the book making company told The Guardian.

Dagens Nyheter has all the finalists here.
