Bizarre

Recently I was talking to a woman at work who is about 10 years younger than me. I noted that something we were reviewing was "bizarre". She looked at me like I had two heads. "Bizarre? No one says 'bizarre'," she said.

This was bizarre to me. I realized that I use bizarre all the time. I like it because the word itself is weird. You got the z in there. I mean, how many words have a z in them? Not many. Plus those two rs. Pretty cool.

Apparently, the younger set has new word for weird that is less bizarre.

Of course you have to use a Basque loanword when you can! Are there any others, BTW?

I checked my Pyles & Algeo and not a mention of Basque loanwords. Hmm.
